Using medicines to treat headache
Headache is considered chronic if present 15 or more days during the month. Chronic headache certainly disturbs normal life. Medicines are used in the treatment of headache as a preventive therapy in cases when a person experiences two or more headaches per week. Regular intake of appropriate medicines is recommended in order to prevent the occurrence of headaches.
If the headache occurs sporadically, a person may, if necessary, take an analgesic (painkiller) to cease the pain. Only simple analgesics (paracetamol or acetaminophen, aspirin) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen known as Advil,Motrin; diclofenac known as Cataflam, Voltaren; metamizole; naproxen known as Naprosyn, indometacin known as Indocin) should be taken into consideration.
If these medicines do not work or the headaches are so common so they require preventive therapy, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
