Climate changes - change of body`s resistance
Unpredictable, sudden weather changes can cause stress to the body, especially cardiovascular system, so likely variation of the blood pressure, migraine, change in body temperature, difficulty breathing and insomnia are likely to occur.
Climate change is affecting all organ systems and wearing the natural defense mechanisms of the human body.
Our body is in dynamic equilibrium with the environment, it adapts to the environment in which we are physiologically and psychologically involved. Our senses which are under the control of the nervous system are constantly monitoring the external conditions and inform us about the change in the environment and activate the responsive mechanism of adaptation. Whether a change in temperature, pressure or the atmospheric humidity, the body sends signals through which we adapt.
We should not be surprised that the seasonal trends of drug dispensing in pharmacies have changed since the stomach virus represents the problem throughout the year, and the seasons of cough and cold seems to have no end. There are more and more cases followed by atypical clinical picture of the disease. Whether it comes to colds, infections or chronic disease, the symptoms occur more slowly and last longer, which further complicate the implementation of the therapy.
Unpredictable, sudden changes of weather keep our senses in the tensioned state of readiness and represent a stress to the body. Cardiovascular system is particularly sensitive, and variation in blood pressure, migraine, change in body temperature, difficulty breathing and insomnia are more likely to occur. The immune system is weakened, struggling to resist potential pathogens from the environment. The sudden changes in weather conditions are especially noticed by the patients with rheumatic diseases.
The specific mechanism of adaptation makes the system of thermoregulation. Due to a higher ambient temperature, the body reacts through acclimatization process, followed by increased secretion of sweat of lower density, to cool down the surface of the body. Thermoregulation system is mainly burdened by heat waves (temperature above32ᵒC that last three days or more), which are often accompanied by an increase in humidity and decrease in atmospheric pressure.
These changes specifically affect chronic patients such as diabetic patients or those suffering from chronic respiratory disease. Small children, the employees who conduct intense physical labor, as well as persons which spend long period of time in air-conditioned rooms are sensitive to temperature variations during the summer.
During the summer heat frequent rehydration regardless of the feeling of thirst, fluid intake of a minimum of two liters or eight glasses of water, rest during the day and often cooling with baths are recommended. The sunny day should be avoided in the period between 10 and 16 hours, in order to reduce the adaptive stress of the skin and harmful effects of solar radiation that is the strongest at that time. Warm weather is also a prerequisite for the growth of bacteria and viruses, and easy cotton and linen clothes, frequently washing of the hands, thorough washing of fruits and vegetables and adequate thermal processing of food is recommended.
Unstable weather and climate change affect our health, so it is necessary to adhere to all the recommendations in the summer, and if you are planning to travel, it is necessary to timely prepare and facilitate the body to adapt to additional climate change.
